Degeneration of Eyesight
and Eye Hemorrhage

Like the case of Jennifer Paul, the case of a man I'll call Robert Lewin enabled me to secure at least limited validation from the world of traditional medicine. Lewin, a thirty-eight-year-old real estate agent, had visited his ophthalmologist a week before his first session with me. His visual acuity had been measured at 20/30--near normal--in his right eye and at 6/200--severely nearsighted--in his left eye. In the center back of his left eye, the doctor had discovered an old scar with a small hemorrhage above it that was obstructing Robert's vision.154
Since doctors at Montefiore Hospital had not encouraged Robert about the possibility of halting the degeneration of his eyesight, he wanted to give my treatment a chance. During our sessions I concentrated on trying to stop the hemorrhage in Robert's eye. Nine days after our first session Robert returned to his doctor and was told that the vision in his left eye had improved to 20/200, though there had been no change in the hemorrhage in the rear of the eye. Still, Robert and I were encouraged by that first improvement and Robert began coming to me regularly. As time passed he reported that his vision had cleared noticeably. After eight months he returned to his ophthalmologist.
This time Robert's "good" right eye had improved a bit, to 20/25. This vision in his left eye had increased dramatically, to 20/50, and the hemorrhage in the back of the eye was gone. At my request Robert asked the doctor to send me a letter confirming these changes. The physician refused to send the letter to me, but he did address a written report to Robert. His letter recorded the changes in Robert's vision and noted, "I mentioned to you that it was possible that the hemorrhage would clear by itself and that you would have some resulting improvement in visual acuity, though this was not likely."* * *
